Discover Our Gold Standard Autism Assessments in East Anglia.

At our Colchester diagnostic centre, we offer industry leading autism assessments using the renowned Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2), and the Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised (ADI-R).

Our expert team uses these tools to assess key areas such as social interaction, communication, behaviours and interests, essential for diagnosing autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

Note: the term Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is used in the diagnostic manuals, but the terms autism or Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) are preferred neuro-affirming descriptions.

What sets us apart?

Our assessments are fully compliant with NICE guidelines. This means we follow the highest standards set by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, ensuring a thorough, multidisciplinary approach with standardised diagnostic tools.

We gather information from various settings, consider the context, and involve family members to provide a comprehensive understanding of each individual’s strengths and challenges related to autism.

FAQs

These are some of the questions adults often ask when considering an autism assessment.

What is Autism?

Autism is a developmental condition that affects how people perceive the world and interact with others. It’s a spectrum, meaning each person with autism has their own unique strengths and challenges.

Common characteristics of autism can include difficulties with social interactions, repetitive behaviours, and a strong preference for routines. Some people may also have intense interests in specific topics and sensory sensitivities.

If you think you want to explore an autism assessment, your first step is usually to speak with your GP. They might do a screening test and, if you meet the criteria, refer you to an NHS autism diagnostic service. However, NHS waiting lists can be long. If you prefer a quicker assessment, you can opt for a private assessment, which is just as valid if using a service that meets NICE guidelines. We offer private assessments and provide a full diagnostic report to help you access further support.

We understand that waiting can be stressful, so we aim to offer appointments as soon as possible, within NICE guidelines of within 3 months.

It’s completely okay if it turns out you’re not autistic. Our assessments are designed to provide clarity. If you do not receive a diagnosis of autism, we’ll still provide a report, help you understand your next steps and explore other potential areas of support.

An autism diagnosis can be incredibly beneficial. It can help you understand yourself better, access tailored support and services, and connect with a community that shares similar experiences.

When you book your autism assessment with us, we’ll assign you a dedicated team member who will guide you every step of the way. They’ll be your friendly point of contact, ready to answer any questions you have throughout the process.

Absolutely. We believe it’s vital to have team members with lived experience of autism, whether through their own lives or their families. This helps us provide a more empathetic and understanding service.

If you have further questions about autism assessments, our team is here to help. Please get in touch and we’ll be happy to guide you.
